Urbanna’s Founders Day

Established in 1680, Urbanna is one of the oldest towns in America! Celebrate the founding of this port town starting with the tobacco and oyster trades.

The balladeers fife and drums will begin the festivities at 10:30 am and continue to play throughout the day.

The Opening Presentation starts at 11:00 am held at the Middlesex County Women’s Club at 202 Virginia Street, Urbanna, VA. This year’s presentation will tell the story of some of our early founders who lived out the strong and continuing entrepreneurial spirit of business and commerce in Urbanna while also coping in individual ways with the evolving alliances and loyalties of different groups in brewing tensions. Their varied lives and activities bring to life the mid-18th century prosperity and work ethic that has continued to this day in the lives of our hard-working and creative merchants and business people.

Visit the Urbanna Museum and Visitors Center at (140 Virginia Street, Urbanna, VA) and see the historical exhibits and hear the story of the most famous map in America:  The John Mitchell Map, told by interpreter Dr. Paul Malone.

Come early and catch a ride on “The Pearl” trolley or take the “Museum in the Streets” virtual app/walking tours in our charming, waterfront town. Many shops, galleries and restaurants to enjoy throughout the day.  Don’t miss a stroll down to the Town Marina take a photo opp in the big Watermen’s Way boots. Check out Urbanna’s website here
