Summer Childrens Program: “Student Dig Day”

“Student Dig Day” June 18 9am, 11am or 1pm
Be part of a real archaeological dig at a colonial site. Help archaeologists excavate around Christ Church (1735) and screen for artifacts. Sign up for (1) two-hour shift: 9-11am, 11am-1pm or 1-3pm.
Public Reading of the Declaration of Independence July 2 10:30am
Patriotic celebration and reading of the Declaration of Independence inside Christ Church (1735), a National Historic Landmark. Kick off July 4th celebrations with this family-friendly event. If you would like to participate by reading aloud some of the names of the 56 people who signed this famous document, please see registration information below.
“Hands on History Day” July 14 10am-2pm
Step back in time with this exciting program in colonial Virginia history. Make a brick by hand, write with a quill pen, and make a grave rubbing. Dig for artifacts, make a candle, play colonial games, and create a colonial silhouette. Build a brick wall, an arch, and a roof truss. Enjoy a pizza party and take home a souvenir swag bag and Museum Activity Book. Ages 6-12. Pre-registration required.
