Where to Watch the Big Game

There are few things that feel more American than eating great food while watching Sunday football. On February 2, an estimated 100 million people will tune in to watch the Super Bowl. While the 2020 Super Bowl will be played at Hard Rock Stadium in Miami, Florida, we’ll all be connected too as we watch from our favorite bars and restaurants.

Over here in the River Realm, it will be no different. We’ll be setting up shop at our favorite watering holes for good company, delicious bites, and smooth spirits.  Here are a few of our recommendations for the big game:

The Galley

Let’s start with Deltaville’s oldest watering hole, The Galley. You’ll find a full parking lot and warm, cozy bar here. The Galley is known for its classic, hearty, and savory dishes. You can regularly order tacos, alfredo, prime rib and burgers all made from scratch. After you pick your favorite entree and drink, pair them with one of the restaurant’s satisfying sides: hand-cut fries, handmade chips, sweet potatoes, or baked apples. We recommend asking for a side of super special Galley sauce for dipping.

Portside Grill

Down in Urbanna, you can watch the game on the water at Portside Grill. Pull up a seat at the full service bar or gather your group around a big table. There’s room for everyone no matter who you are rooting for. If you’re bored by the football, turn your attention to the boats winding in and out of the marina. Order up creative burgers, crab cakes, fried oysters and more for the gang. The chef features recipes from his grandma’s own kitchen. Did someone say pie? You’ll be smiling, whether your team wins or loses.

Something Different

If you’re looking to watch the game over some smoked brisket and barbecue, head to an Urbanna staple: Something Different. The eatery and watering hole is known for its award winning meats. You can smell them cooking from down the street! Discover several classic takes on the burger alongside other menu items like the brisket melt, the Virginia muffaletta, and turkey reubens. If your team wins, bring home a souvenir–one with flavor! Something Different sells its specialty rubs, seasonings, sauces, freshly baked pies and breads, homemade ice cream, craft brews and wines. Keep the party going all night back at home or your hotel!

Half Shell Grill

You can watch the game and play games at the Half Shell Grill. The restaurant has a game room with shuffleboard and darts. Fuel your game day crew with bites including fresh local seafood, steaks, salads, and sandwiches. We love the oysters Rockefeller and crab dip with homemade chips.  If you need to walk it off, head out for a break and visit several boutiques that line Virginia Street in Urbanna. If your team doesn’t get the trophy, you can still come home a winner.

The 606

This is White Stone’s classic sports bar. Find all of your favorite game day munchies like pigs in a blanket, stadium pretzels, burgers and steaks. You can also enjoy unique and savory bites like the Billabong Chicken Barbecue Dinner, the Dublin Burger, and Aussie Rolls. Follow up your meal with one of the many beers on tap. Get to know the River Realm regulars who come here for the food, drinks and company. You may decide to become a regular yourself!

The Dub Shack

If you’re in Kilmarnock, this where you want to cozy up for the big game. The Dub Shack has a warm, friendly and fun atmosphere. The menu is sort of the same! You’ll see old friendly favorites like baby back ribs, chicken wings, and spinach artichoke dip. There are some special surprises, though, like bacon wrapped scallops, fried oysters, and Mediterranean pasta. The bar is full service, so you can follow up your meal with your favorite cocktail. Sit back, watch the game unfold, and enjoy your meal!
