SUMMARY:Tappahannock Rotary Big Fish Tournament 2026
DESCRIPTION:Tappahannock Rotary’s 2026 Rappahannock River Big Fish Tournament will be held on June 27\, 2026\, from 7:00 AM to 4:30 PM. Fishing will take place on the Rappahannock River and its tributaries between the Port Royal and White Stone Bridges\, with anglers launching from wherever they choose. The event features Adult and Youth divisions\, with prizes awarded for the heaviest fish in each category\, including Croaker\, Catfish\, Snakehead\, and Spot. All proceeds support local charitable causes. \nRegistration is $175 per boat/registrant if completed online before June 1\, 2026\, and includes one free T-shirt per entry. After June 1\, registration increases to $200 per boat/registrant and does not include a free shirt. Additional T-shirts may be ordered for $20. Early registration is encouraged to save $25 and guarantee a complimentary event shirt. \nThe official event headquarters on tournament day will be the Moose Lodge at the Dock Street boat ramp in Tappahannock\, which will also serve as the primary weigh-in location. A secondary weigh-in site will be available at Garrett’s Marina from 3:00 to 4:00 PM\, with all final weigh-ins due by 4:30 PM at Dock Street. Participants may pick up registrations and T-shirts on June 26 from 5:00 to 7:00 PM at Roberto Italian Restaurant\, 1250 S. Church Lane\, Tappahannock. \nThe tournament will be supported by the Moose Lodge adjacent to the Dock Street ramp\, where free hamburgers and hot dogs will be served at 4:30 PM following the weigh-in. DESCRIPTION:As the American Revolution broke out in New England in the spring of 1775\, dramatic events unfolded in Virginia that proved every bit as decisive as the battles of Lexington and Concord and Bunker Hill in uniting the colonies against Britain. That June\, following his raid on the powder magazine in Williamsburg in April and increasing tensions with patriots\, Virginia’s last royal governor Lord Dunmore fled the capital and built a stronghold in Norfolk. In November\, Dunmore issued a proclamation promising freedom to enslaved people and indentured servants owned by patriots who joined the British war effort. Several hundred enslaved people joined Dunmore’s Ethiopian Regiment\, which saw combat in late 1775 and into 1776. SUMMARY:Lavender & Legacy: A 250th Celebration
DESCRIPTION:The house at Clifton was built in 1785 — nine years after the Declaration of Independence. This July\, as America marks its 250th anniversary\, Two Bees Lavender is opening this historic estate for a day that connects the land\, the lavender\, and the rich story of the Northern Neck and its role in shaping America. \nClifton is now the farm and personal home of Stacey and Kevin Noll\, owners of Two Bees Lavender. The house\, three outbuildings\, farmland\, and interspersed woods occupy part of the vast Virginia lands originally held by Robert “King” Carter. The 1785 house built for Landon Carter II was added to and renovated in the early 1800s and 1860s. After building the house\, Landon and Catherine Taylor Carter lived there for a decade before moving to the Carter ancestral home\, Sabine Hall\, in Richmond County. During several periods in its history Clifton has been used as a “getaway” or hunting lodge. Clifton remained in the Carter family until 1842 when it was sold to James Armistead Palmer\, and it was owned by the Palmer family into the 2000s when the property was listed on the National Register of Historic Places. \nTickets $25.\nTickets are timed and spaces are limited! \nWhat’s included:\nGuided Historic House Tours with Lancaster Virginia Historical Society volunteers. (Note: This private historic home is not ADA accessible and stairs are required for entry.)\nA guided lavender picking experience in the field.\nMeet with with an archaeologist from the Virginia Department of Historic Resources to learn about what the land itself has to tell us about the people who lived and worked here. \nAlso on Site:\nLavender lemonade and food for purchase.\nShopping in the Two Bees Lavender Farm Store.\nBook signing by local author J.
