Catch Your Own Fresh Seafood

It’s no surprise that seafood is plentiful around Virginia’s River Realm! Fresh Oysters, Chesapeake Bay Blue Crabs, Rockfish, Flounder and so much more can be found in our waters, and though our local seafood retailers and restaurants are a great place to find a fresh catch, there’s nothing quite like catching your own. Waterman’s Heritage Tours, Guided Fishing Charters, and dropping a line at a public dock are just a few ways in the River Realm to achieve a DIY Fresh Catch experience.

DIY Fresh Catch Experiences

Watermen Heritage Tours

Experience the Chesapeake Bay with an authentic working waterman as your personal guide. These Captains have created on-water tours relating to the ecology of the Bay, how seafood is harvested, our waterway history and general site seeing. They even create customized tours for families. Join them for a life changing experience as you get out on our rivers and creeks to explore the River Realm. Tour sizes determined by size of each Captain’s vessel.

Launch A Boat or Use A Public Dock

There’s plenty of ways to get out on the water for a fun fishing trip. You can BYOB (Bring Your Own Boat) and utilize our public boat ramps located along the Rappahannock River and its creeks, or find a boat rental facility. If you prefer to stay a little closer to shore while you fish and crab, our public docks make a great resource, and we have many vacation rentals that offer a private dock for your outdoor recreation.
