Cool Cocktails in the River Realm
Happy hour looks and tastes a little different around here. That’s because we have the river to inspire us and chefs who bring inspirations from around the world to their creations here. Like artists, bartenders take every pour and every shake personally. You reap the rewards. Below are a few of our favorite spots to enjoy a cocktail in the River Realm.
250 Virginia Street, Urbanna
Centrally located right in the middle of downtown Urbanna, The Half Shell is the perfect place to stop in for a drink and a bite to eat. Relax on the patio with a fresh cocktail and watch this bustling small town while you breathe in the warm summer air. Be sure to order their signature Half Shell Punch that’s served up in a fun tiki-style glass (pictured above), and of course, you can’t go wrong with an Urbanna Refresher (pictured below): Vodka, Cucumber, Lime and Mint with a bit of Simple Syrup.
4357 Irvington Rd, Irvington
Bryan Byrd is a River Realm local. One of his first jobs was at Trick Dog Cafe. Today, he has transformed the building into his latest food concept: Dredge. He named the restaurant after the method of collecting wild oysters. Here he’s bringing one of the most creative menus of the region to life. His cocktail menu is just as thoughtful as the dinner menu.
16273 General Puller Hwy, Deltaville
This upscale restaurant is tucked away in an unassuming location in Deltaville, but you will immediately be impressed once you happen upon it. Chef Helen Elizabeth prides herself on recreating the simple recipes that she grew up on into elegant dishes worthy of recognition. While you wait for your meal, you can enjoy gorgeously crafted cocktails like the Hibiscus Martini or the delicious Pomegranate Bourbon made with top shelf elderflower liquor Maker’s Mark Bourbon & Elderflower Liquor. The cocktails are so beautiful, you’ll definitely want to snap a photo before sipping.
606 Chesapeake Drive, White Stone
If you’re looking for a party, The 606 is a new addition to the area. Featuring karaoke nights, DJs, and dancing, the bar and restaurant is just want we needed. To kick off your weekend, jump into a bloody mary bar. It’s stocked with bacon, Slim Jims, hot sauces, and peppers. Guests can also opt to add in shrimp. Pair other classic cocktails with menu items like deep dish pizza and salmon patties at The 606. Not to mention they have some tasty Frozen Cocktails! All fun, no frills.
65 Tavern Rd, Irvington
Bad kids can drink, too. Once a boarding school, this boutique hotel is now hub for refined, yet laid back relaxation. The Inn’s rooms names are inspired by the schoolhouse’s past, including its bar. Detention serves up hand crafted cocktails in a classic, intimate bar setting. It’s wine and beer offerings just got an update: wine on tap. These aren’t box wines, they’re ultra-premium to match the Inn’s reputation for class and quality.
327 Old Ferry Road, White Stone
Welcome to White Stone’s favorite watering hole. With consistent live music playing and a new waterside food truck, the sipping is simple at Willaby’s. Explore cool and colorful cocktails that match the sunset. Make sure to check Facebook for weekly menu specials and live music. If you’re into brunch, the Bloody Mary bar here is a must!
25 Cross Street, Urbanna
Take in gorgeous waterfront views of Urbanna Creek while you sip on some delicious cocktails at Portside Grill. This family owned restaurant serves up beautiful drinks and plates, and offers a great place to dock and dine in the River Realm. You can come by boat, by car, or by biking and walking from the Chesapeake Inn in Urbanna. Enjoy dinner and drinks, and a leisurely stroll back to your home-away-from-home.
77 King Carter Drive, Irvington
Laidback luxury at its finest! Visit Vine for a large, yet curated selection of wine, seasonal beer, and other boozy finds. Pair your finds with flavorful small plates. Hang out at the intimate bar and tables inside or gather around a fireplace on the patio for a lovely evening. Grab an extra bottle or two to bring back to the vacation rental.
134 Timberneck Road, Deltaville
In addition to Deltaville Tap’s killer beer lineup, they have an incredible selection of cocktails, with 7 unique Bloody Marys, a list of Margaritas, and who can forget… their infamous Honey Bourbon Smash. This hot spot in Deltaville makes it feel like summertime all year long with tasty islands-inspired drinks, and a friendly team of folks that feel like friends the moment you walk in.
480 King Carter Drive, Irvington
The Tides Inn has longed served up the River Realm essential, the Lancaster Lemonade. The cocktail is created using fresh lemon, limoncello, vodka, and fresh garnishes. It’s refreshing and goes down easy after long days on the water or while you’re relaxing my the resort’s pool. Now, there’s a lot more to enjoy.

Take a walk down Kilmarnock’s quaint main street and snuggle up at Donna’s bar. This hometown cocktail bar and restaurant has it all: seafood, classic American favorites, beer on tap, and a full bar ready to create anything you fancy. From oyster shots to lemon drops, a good time is waiting at Donna’s!
