Genealogy Lecture: LECTURE: Using Newspapers and Directories for Genealogical Research

November 4, 2021 @ 1:00 pm - 3:30 pm

Newspapers can give you more information on ancestors than just obituaries. Learn how to find information on marriages, occupations, social events, etc., as well as where you can locate newspapers, which repositories are online, and how you can obtain copies of articles from papers outside of the area where you live. Directories—city, business, church, and other types–are often overlooked as useful sources. They can be more than just a list of names and can offer information about residents of an area and help paint a bigger picture of a community. Directories can be especially helpful in documenting people and places between federal censuses.

Part of “Genealogy Research Topics, Tools, & Tips Fall 2021 Lecture Series.” Presenter: Sharon B. Hodges, Professional Genealogist. Sponsored by and for the benefit of the Lancaster Virginia Historical Society.  Download a full series brochure at https://lvhs.box.com/fall2021genealogy

All paid registrants will receive exclusive training materials/handouts and access to a Zoom recording of the chosen session. Sessions begin promptly at 1:00 PM. For in-person attendees, doors open 20 minutes ahead.
