Founder’s Day in Urbanna

Established in 1680, Urbanna is one of the oldest towns in America!  Celebrate the founding of this port town starting with the tobacco and oyster trades.   Spend a day in living history that includes pirates, a town crier and a coterie of colonial citizens strolling in Urbanna!

The Opening Ceremony starts at 10:00 am at the Urbanna Museum and Visitors Center at 140 Virginia Street, Urbanna, VA.   Come see “Urbanna, the Town that Almost Wasn’t” a 30  minute, 17th Century (1680-1706) theatrical outdoor play dramatizing the reluctance of Ralph Wormley II to relinquish a portion of his land holdings for title to the town.  At 10:30 am, 1:00 pm and 3:00 pm meet up with the Pirates who will do a  black powder weapons demonstration followed by children’s pirate school at the Town Green (next to the ABC store on Virginia Street.)

Visit the Urbanna Museum and Visitors Center at (140 Virginia Street, Urbanna, VA) and see the oyster exhibit and hear the famous historic John Mitchell Map.

Enjoy colonial games, music, trolley tours and “Museum in the Street” walking tours in our charming, waterfront town.  Many shops, galleries and restaurants to enjoy throughout the day.  Don’t miss a trip down to the Town Marina and a photo opp in the big Watermen’s Way boots!
