March 26, 2023 @ 4:00 pm - 5:30 pm

“DNA 101: An Introduction to Genetic Genealogy” will be the subject of a talk given by Bessida Cauthorne White on Sunday, March 26, at 4:00 PM. Sponsored by the Middlesex County Museum and Historical Society, the talk will take place at the Middlesex County Historic Courthouse, 877 General Puller Highway, Saluda.

DNA is a powerful tool that can be used to augment traditional genealogical research. This presentation for beginners will include an explanation of basic genetic genealogy terms, the types of DNA testing that may be used for genealogical purposes, the DNA tests currently on the market, the type of information that they can provide, who should be tested, and the limitations of DNA testing.

White will share these basics as well as her personal experiences with DNA testing for herself and her family. She has been a genealogist for forty years and manages DNA test results for thirty-five of her family members and friends. She is a founder of two genealogy societies who frequently lectures on various aspects of family and community history.

The public is invited to attend this free event. A DNA resource handout will be provided to attendees. For further information, email info@middlesexmusuem.com or call 804-758-3663.
