“Is This an Artifact? Understanding and Identifying Archaeological Finds”
by Dr. Dave Brown, co-director of the Fairfield Foundation and Center for Archaeology, Preservation, and Education in Gloucester
Dr. Brown will address some of the common questions people have about local archaeology and discuss tips, techniques, and ethical considerations for collecting, dating, and interpreting material culture remains of the past.

Registration required by Noon the day of lecture.
Free for LVHS members; $5 for public.
Zoom at your own location or watch on the big tv screen at Lancaster Community Library in Kilmarnock. 
**Library seating is limited to 25 people in the small downstairs meeting room, so reservations are absolutely required.**

David Brown, Ph.D., and Thane Harpole have served as Co-Directors of the Fairfield Foundation since its founding in 2000. The nonprofit organization began with a focus on archaeological research and public outreach at Fairfield Plantation, the historic seat of the Burwell family in Gloucester County, and has since expanded its mission and reach to include archaeological surveys, excavations, historical documentation, and public educational programs across the region. Together, Brown and Harpole have worked on dozens of sites across the Middle Peninsula and led numerous public archaeology projects. They both also served on the primary research team to investigate the Powhatan Indian village of Werowocomoco.

HOURS OF OPERATION as of May 1, 2022

MUSEUM AND BOOKSHOP:
Open Wednesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays 10:00-4:00 and the second Saturday of each month 10:00-3:00. Early closing 2:00 Thursday May 12.
Current exhibit: “Digging Into Archaeology: Uncovering Pieces of Lancaster’s Past” with artifacts and interpretation from William Ball’s Millenbeck and Thomas Carter’s Barford.
