“A Special Evening with” presents Anthony Ray Hinton

A free series featuring prominent authors and artists throughout the summer:

Tuesday: June 14 at 6:30pm    Brad Parks
Best-Selling Mystery and Thriller Author. Winner of the 2010 and 2014 Shamus Award, Parks is the only author to have won all three of those awards. Parks will discuss his newest book, Unthinkable, reviewed as a world-class thriller. Attendees may be treated to a song –or two! Books will be available for purchase and signing.

Anthony Ray Hinton

American activist, writer and author who was wrongly convicted of the 1985 murders of two fast food restaurant managers in Birmingham, Alabama.  Hinton was on death row for 28 years prior to his 2015 release. Hinton is author of The Sun Does Shine: How I Found Life and Freedom on Death Row, and featured in Just Mercy by Bryan Stephenson.

John Latell

Metal Sculpture Artist John Latell Visit Wicomico Forge in Weems! Learn about Latell’s lifelong career in metal sculpture that includes creation of the Carrie Deer in Pittsburgh.
The forge and studio will be toured and attendees will see completed metal sculptures and artwork, such as well in process works for Latell’s 2023 show at Gloucester Arts on Main.

Creativity Workshop With Bess Haile
Participate in a guided, unique approach to unleash your creativity and channel it into action! Artist/author/retired librarian, Haile has published The Brains: A Guided Journal for Talking
to the Helpers in Your Head that describes how to tap into both sides of your brain. Includes theory and research for getting the brains to communicate and a journal for you to experiment. Copies of The Brains will be provided to the attendees and will be used in the workshop.

Historical Storytelling by Master Storyteller Sheila Arnold
Freedom is what we all desire, but if you had to leave something or someone behind in order to achieve it, could you do it? Through story, song, and audience interaction, the experiences of fugitive slaves from the Underground Railroad and who and what they left behind—portrays the sacrifices given for freedom. Stories full of thought provoking moments and humor will stay in your mind long after the presentation has ended.
Appropriate for all ages.
