Deltaville Maritime Museum & Holly Point Nature Park

Where maritime history comes to life! The exhibits reveal the maritime history of the Deltaville area beginning with the catastrophic impact of the Delmarva meteorite 35 million years ago and chronicle the more modern period of area wooden boat building beginning in the late 1800s.

Are you looking for a great unplugged, out-in-nature experience with your family?  Do you want to reconnect as a family while learning a new skill?  Do it all on the shores of Mill Creek at Deltaville Maritime Musuem and Holly Point Nature Park this summer. Family boat building is a hands-on experience! This is the only remaining week long school, still using real wood planks, with a camp atmosphere and guided traditional methods.  The workshop begins with the basic assembly of the Wright Skiff:  sawing, sanding, hammering, applying adhesives.  Each member of the team will contribute to the construction.  By Friday the boat is painted and named. If you want to stop by and see how the boat building progresses throughout the week – we welcome spectators Monday – Friday 10:00 am – 4:00 pm! Saturday at 10:30 am the teams paddle their boats for a “free for all” Great Skiff Boat Race.  Families/Teams maneuver their newly-made  boats around the windward mark during the competition. The Family Boat Building Week comes to a close with a celebratory “Fish Fry” and a wacky trophy presentation following the race at 11:00 am which is included in the camp fee. The public is welcome to attend at $10 a person and children 12 and under are $5. Nothing feels quite like the pride you have paddling around on a boat you made with you own hands. New found team spirit and family bonding will unite each person who participates in this experience. Be sure to sign up early, it is so popular, it can sell out a year in advance!

Holly Point Nature Park has a children’s garden, nature trail walk, kayak launch, picnic tables and a pier walk. Be sure to check out their extensive events schedule – farmer’s markets, outdoor concerts, seafood feasts and more.

Hours: Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, Friday and Saturday 10am – 4pm. Sunday 12pm – 4pm.  Closed on Wednesdays, New Years, Thanksgiving and Christmas.
Admission: $5
