5 Mother’s Day Gifts Inspired by Mother Nature

“I think in a lot of ways unconditional love is a myth. My mom’s the only reason I know it’s a real thing.” – Conor Oberst

How does your mom show you unconditional love? How often do you return the favor? That’s what Mother’s day is all about–pausing to show Mom how much you appreciate and value her. We hope you take time to create a thoughtful gift that will make mom blush, cry or even laugh.

Here in Virginia Oyster Country, we are always inspired by Mother Nature and the many gifts she gives to our region. We’ve created a list of Mother Nature-inspired gifts from local shops, art galleries, wineries, and more. Stop by one of these businesses and pick up something for mom that is worthy of all she’s given to you.

Sparkling River Themed Jewelry from Burkes Fine Jewelers

We have a sneaking suspicion Mom might like something shiny that comes in a small box. Commemorate your love for the rivers and the Bay through a piece from Burke’s Fine Jewelers. The store, which opened in 1969, carries collections that embody a love for the land, the waters, and the traditions of the Northern Neck. You’ll find truly unique custom-designed piece by the store’s designers Melissa and Justin Burke.

One-of-a-Kind Art at Allure Art Center

The Allure Art Center is located in the heart of White Stone, VA. The art center is a hub for the region’s artists who rent space in the facility. The gallery and gift shop feature paintings, jewelry, sculptures, and more often created right in the center. Check the events calendar to find out a good time to visit– there is always a new art show, exhibit or even live music at Allure. You’ll want to make time to walk around when you visit because the center is housed in a stunning three-story Victorian style building built in 1910.

Wine and Oyster Gift Basket

Bring a taste of the Bay right to your foodie mom. Visit Good Luck Cellars to create a custom selection of wines for her. The local vineyard carries a large variety from Chardonnay to a Shamrock Red. If you’d like recommendations for wine and oyster pairings, read this article. One local says Good Luck’s 2016 Voigner is perfect for accompanying our region’s oysters.

On your way home, visit the J & W Seafood Gourmet Market in Deltaville. You can pick up raw oysters, crabs, shrimp, fish and more for a dinner that will “Wow” Mom until next Mother’s Day. If you aren’t able to swing by, you can always order oysters online from J & W Seafood. Put your selections in a straw basket with a big bow to present on Mother’s Day morning.

An Outfit from The Dandelion

Is mom a fashionista? If so, visit The Dandelion to put together an outfit that will match her style. The clothing boutique is located just around the corner from the Hope & Glory Inn and looks like a gorgeous old home. Inside, you’ll discover two stories of sweaters, tassel necklaces, sunglasses, tote bags, dresses, rain coats and more. Choose items in her favorite colors or maybe include the colors of her alma mater. The shop carries candles and other household goods, which can be a finishing touch to your stylish present. If you can’t make it to the boutique, you can still support the local business by shopping The Dandelion online.

A Cove Cruise at  the Tides Inn

If mama bear is more of an adventurer, offer to take her out to explore during one of the Cove Cruises offered by the Tides Inn. These casual cruises depart every day at 1 p.m. and take a rise around the scenic Carter’s Creek. You’ll see beautiful waterfront homes, catch a glimpse of the local wildlife and gain an understanding of the local seafood industry and its role in American history. Finish off the cruise with a late lunch at the Chesapeake Restaurant at the Tides Inn or even an afternoon facial or pedicure at the spa.
