Landsdowne Christmas House Tour

Dec 2, 2017 10:00 am - Dec 2, 2017 3:00 pm

Delight in a Christmas House Tour of Lansdowne located in the Historic District of Urbanna in Middlesex County, Virginia. The beautifully restored home, Lansdowne, will be decorated and docents will be stationed in each of the eleven rooms that will be on view to talk about the history of the house and give information about its restoration.  Festivities will include hot cider and fresh, home-baked cookies refreshments.

Holiday decorations will feature fresh flower arrangements by Cindy Naylor of The Wild Bunch in Kilmarnock, holiday greenery, and 12-foot Christmas trees in the living room and the library decorated by the Gravatt family and friends using family heirloom ornaments.

Lansdowne was built circa 1740 and has been home to such locally well-known and important historical figures as Ralph Wormeley III, owner of Rosegill, and Scottish factor James Mills. The home’s best-known owner was Arthur Lee, who served the American cause during the Revolutionary War as a diplomat to France and later, a member of the Continental Congress.  It was Lee who named the property Lansdowne-on-the-Rappahannock.  It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1974.

Tickets are $15 and can be purchased at the door on December 2nd or in advance by emailing: middlesexmuseum@va.metrocast.net.

Benefits go to the Middlesex County Museum & Historical Society
