Experience the joys and difficulties of a freed black woman in 1805 as told through the eyes of former slave Sarah. The character is based on the true histories of the men, women and children who were gradually freed by Robert Carter III’s 1791 Deed of Emancipation.

Sheila Arnold Jones is a professional storyteller and CEO of her own company “History’s Alive!” in Hampton, VA. She has been researching, developing, and performing historical character interpretations for the past twenty years, following positions in programmatic outreach and public relations at the Colonial Williamsburg Foundation.
